Kansas Fly Fisher Posted November 9, 2006 Posted November 9, 2006 In response to the post regarding the Baghdad School of Flyfishing I propose that we start a unique type of fly swap. I would like to get as many tyer's as possible to tie a dozen (or more if your so inclined)of one of the fly's from the list below. I'll serve as the swap miester and collect the fly's and send them on to the troops. If you don't want to tie up a fly but want to help out they need tippet material (2x to 5x). Remember, this is a one-way swap. You won't be receiving anything back but the warm feeling of helping bring some fun to our troops serving their country. There will be no limit to the number of tyer's for this swap. I'd like to have the fly's to me by the middle of December so that maybe we can get them there in time for a Christmas gift from home. John FLIES Here are some specific patterns that work: Wooly Bugger sizes 6, 8, 10 black, brown and olive (olive and black are best) Elk hair caddis 12, 14, 16 Hare's Ear (bead head) 10, 12, 14 Baghdad Pheasant Butt Iraqi Minnow (This is my bead chain pattern that is a killer for asp) In general the following types of flies are good: carp flies (carpers know) 6, 8, 10 Damsel flies 6, 8, 10 Shrimp flies 8, 10, 12 minnow patterns, 6, 8, 10, 12 Born to Fish, Forced to Work KSMEDIC.COM
timsfly Posted November 9, 2006 Posted November 9, 2006 Sounds good to me, get the thing started and I'll send em a couple of doz. woolybuggers and some tippet material. We have to support the troops and if they can fish some over there great. I have talked to a couple of guys that have come back from a tour over there and they have told me of some of the fishing. I've emailed the contact for the fly school and asked for any updates on needed supplies or flies. For now, we'll go with the list provided. Here's what we've got so far: John - #12 Elk Hair Caddis Tim - Woolybuggers and Tippet Remember, since this is swap for the troops, duplicates are welcome. Terry Beeson Posted November 9, 2006 Posted November 9, 2006 Count me in, since I probably am the one that prompted this... NO... count me in because this is a GREAT PROJECT!!... regardless of what that ignorant transplanted Arkie hillbilly posted in the other thread.... (that would be ME for those that might think I'm bashing someone else...) I'll probably tie some buggers as well. And I'll rifle through my "stuff" and send some supplies as well.... OH... and thanks, John, for hosting this...
