Jack Jones Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 I'm currently using Cortland 444 on my TFO Pro 8' 4wt. I'm not getting the performance I want. I'm just not feeling it load and the action seems a bit fast. Can anyone suggest a line that I can replace that with this year that would suit this rod better? I was looking at the S.A. Mastery Headstart. Anyone have any opinions on that? I posted this on another forum, but got no responses yet. Wayne SW/MO Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 I was looking at the S.A. Mastery Headstart. Anyone have any opinions on that? Reports are that it's a very good line. I have a Field and Stream 4 on my 4 and it's in the same category as the Headstart. If your rod is too fast you might want to put a 5 wt on it. If possible you might see if you can try someones 5 before you jump though. Rods can feel fast because the distances are too short also. Because of the shorter distances you're not using enough line to load the rod. Another option is to take the outfit to the yard and start clipping a foot at a time off the line you have. You wouldn't want to go too far obviously. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
West Fork Jason Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 I really like the Airflo RidgeClear i just started fishing with on my 5 weight! http://www.WestForkJason.com
Jason R. Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 Rio gold is really good. The Rio Grand is supposed to be heavier in order to help load fast action rods. I have it on my 6wt and it is a little too much- but the rod is built on a Batson forecast blank and is more "medium fast." That TFO Pro is pretty fast- I built one for my dad (5 wt) and he got a 5wt Rio Gold line for it- seems like it needs a heavier line to me but he loves it. http://flyinthesouth.com/
