Members crappiepro Posted March 30, 2013 Members Posted March 30, 2013 Back in the day, I used to have great success walking the shores of LOZ during the spawn catching limits of big crappie on a small bobber and jig. Is there any shore fishing opporunities (I don't mean fishing off a launch ramp) in MT, when crappie spawn is on - can you get to some of the coves on foot at the state parks, and are the banks "walkable" - I really don't have a boat suited to anything more than small stream fishing.
NoLuck Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 Take hiway J out of Perry toward the dam. Turn on BB and you can get to good cove fishing going left or right. You have to walk a little through the woods but it is worth it. Both directions off of BB will get you to the water. Turning left is paved and ends at a boat ramp that is small and you could probably fish within site of the ramp in a small boat and do real well. Turning right is a gravel road and has a lot at the end that you can park in and walk to the lake from. Crossing over Lick creek on J is bridge and an access area that a lot of people fish from also.
countryred Posted March 30, 2013 Posted March 30, 2013 Theres a bunch. There is a good cove midlake. In florida behind the mark twain birthplace shrine. Shell Branch has several good pockets just north of the boat ramp. More timber there. Get a good map and look for the hunter/ fisherman gravel parking lots,,some have no ramps. If there are some good coves close by your are fixed up. We used to really catch them in gravel pockets around brush. The key to catching the bigger ones was fishing the bigger trees out off the bank where you find alot of males shallow.
