jdavis
I'm making plans for a 2 night float on the upper Jack's Fork the first weekend in May. This will be the third year in a row we have tried to get on this river. Up to this point we have been foiled by weather or river levels. It looks like the water should be sufficient this year. We would like to put in at the Prongs if the water is right, but would be OK with putting in at Buck Hollow if not. Can anyone give me an ideal water level range for the gauge at Mountain View in order to put loaded canoes in at the Prongs? Assuming, the water is sufficient to put in at the Prongs, what would be the right place to take out? Would we run out of river to quickly if we tool out at Alley Spring? KCRIVERRAT
Put in at Blue Spring and take out at Bay Creek if you're on a fishing trip. If you're just paddling and sightseeing go do your thing. Have fun! Try to camp one night at Chalk Bluff. HUMAN RELATIONS MANAGER @ OZARK FISHING EXPEDITIONS
jdavis
So how far is it really from Buck Hollow to Alley Spring? The river map I'm looking at would suggest it is around 17 miles, but the outfitters list it at 24 miles. Also, is it safe to leave a vehicle overnight at Buck Hollow and Alley Spring, what about the Prongs?
timinmo
The Paddlers Guide shows the mileage to be about 24 miles. I have left vehicles multiple nights at all the accesses you mention without a problem. I probably worried about the Prongs the most but that is small water up there and other than early spring there will not be much floater traffic up that high.
