NoLuck Posted April 20, 2013 Posted April 20, 2013 Fishing was not very good with the water going up from 2.58 to 3.22. Flo orange egg pattern seemed good in the morning till the cold front came through and the water got real murky. Wind was cranking and it was snowing Friday morning so we packed it up and headed home.
brittsnbirds Posted April 20, 2013 Posted April 20, 2013 Yea, blame it on the water! You had your mind on your new "baby" . In that rising water a good red and brown san juan worm in the flooded grass always worked for me! Glad you mentioned the "flo orange salmon egg". I need to tie some. U use tungsten? What size?

Size 12 brass tungsten bead to get it down faster. My appt. wasn't till 4:00pm so it didn't matter what time I left as long as I got there before then. I had full intentions of staying till later so we could fish a little. But, the water was rockin and it was blowin pretty bad with snow flurries. I am usually a die hard but not that day. Too much nice weather where I've been the last few months.
Wayne SW/MO Posted April 20, 2013 Posted April 20, 2013 Snowing!! Good grief it's April. If the water is colored, and it isn't too crowded, I've done well on black buggers or leeches, 12 or 14's fished at the seam. The seam is generally close to the bank and can be hard to fish if it's crowded though. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
NoLuck Posted April 20, 2013 Author Posted April 20, 2013 Wayne, I didn't even think about stripping a bugger. There wasn't a bunch of people there either. I thought about a crackleback but I didn't have anything in the colors I thought about that would work well.
NoLuck Posted April 20, 2013 Author Posted April 20, 2013 Pat, I'm guessing this is the baby you refer too??
Wayne SW/MO Posted April 20, 2013 Posted April 20, 2013 My theory is that black is easy to see in colored waters and bigger is also easier to see. It seems to work pretty well. Orange also seems to work better in off colored water, for some reason? Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
NoLuck Posted April 20, 2013 Author Posted April 20, 2013 The orange worked good enough for 20 fish I think it was. After the water came up really high it was pretty tough getting a good drift. Stripping may have been the answer.
brittsnbirds Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 That's her! Sure would look good setting next to a 28' Wildwood down there in CG5! Awnings out, fire in the pit, a few frosty Trout Slayers in the cooler. Now that's liv'n!!
NoLuck Posted April 22, 2013 Author Posted April 22, 2013 It will happen as soon as they turn me loose from this job. Maybe we can camp out when I get back before I put it on my lot. Once I place it and level it it's there for a while.
