PHhunter Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 I can not count the number of crappie I caught last night. Problem was about 10 shorts for every 1 keeper. We also tore up the whites under the lights. Had one 5 pound walleye. We used minnows in 18 to 14 foot of water. There are a bunch of crappie on the bank but they are all small. I am beginning to think that the big ones are just staying out to spawn. The females we have caught had eggs and their tails did look worked? We shall see if they move up further. All caught on minnows.
WakenLake Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 I was plannin to go this weekend after looking at your last report...the only way ive been able to get any size is under lights at night. I think MDC was right when they said it would only be a fair year for crappie at stockton. Last year they were on fire. www.jordanvalleyautorepair.com
Members minnesotawalleyeguy Posted May 15, 2013 Members Posted May 15, 2013 ive caught several big slab crappie my last few trips. a lot of shorties too, but brought home 20 plus keepers fishing during the day trolling cranks in 15-20fow.
9LB Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 I do not fish for crappies but have been catching some nice big one's trolling for walleyes.
Walcrabass Posted May 23, 2013 Posted May 23, 2013 Wakenlake and other "True Fisherpeople", If you recall in the past I have pleaded that everyone should tell our Conservation Commission to increase our length limits on the Bass, Create a slot, and give us species differentiation for the Kentucky Bass to be put in their own category. I have also pleaded to increase the length limit for the Crappie. As you have mentioned last year was "On Fire" for the Crappie at Stockton. Many people I talked to told me about catching 11 to 13" Crappie. If we had increased our length limit to 11" two years ago we would have put back those 11" and under fish last year and they would now be over 11". We would have more fish in the lake to spawn which would make up for a "Not So Good" spawning year like this one.I remember all too well when the length limit on Stockton for Bass was 12" and for Crappie was 8". Basically speaking as long as the length we choose is well within their growth potential and attainable age then the length we set is only dictated by the supply of food. Stockton has plenty of food. Let's get this done guys. Email the Department of Conversation and make your voice be heard. Bump the quality of fishing in Missouri lakes up closer to it's true potential. Signed, "That Level Headed Walcrabass"
ozarkgunner Posted May 23, 2013 Posted May 23, 2013 Do people eat and keep that many bass? Most everyone I know throws them back. Angler At Law
powerdive Posted May 23, 2013 Posted May 23, 2013 i eat em cause bass fishermen eat walleyes Hear, hear! Eyeman for president!!! Bass are also great under tomatoes... Walcrabass, you want bigger bass? Stop releasing them all! They're panfish, for cri-yi.
9LB Posted May 23, 2013 Posted May 23, 2013 I like to have a little bass between my walleye fillets. I use Bass as a garnish ! If we are going to start new laws first we need a Wallye season that opens on 4/15, the reason your catching all these small crappies is cause the lake has too many. I hope the walleyes are raiding all the crappie beds.
ryan Posted May 23, 2013 Posted May 23, 2013 Don't know why anyone would eat bass in a lake so full of walleye and crappie. It's like having your choice of hot dogs or steak. No brainer for me.
