Hey, everybody. I haven't fished Bull Shoals in over 15 years, so I'm really clueless about fishing there. I'm camping with some friends at Shadow Rock this weekend, and I'll be fishing from the bank. What would you recommend I throw out there? I'm after trout, smallmouth, and crappie, mainly. Thanks for your help.

Uh good luck. With as cold as the water has been, it's been a tough year for me down in that area. I'd definitely try live bait though, unless you're opposed to using it.

I would probably throw something in the order of a Shad Rap, fluke or spinner bait off the bank at SR. If you want to go trout take a short drive up to Empire park and fish there. There's a bait shop up the the hill from SR, on the left just before the 4 way, in Forsyth that might warrant a visit.

Thanks for the advice, guys. I heard it was tough fishing right now, just like Taneycomo. I didn't know how tough it was, though. I suppose I could bust out the big rods and go for whites...

Your best bet is still probably to go to Empire, it's not that far up Y going across the old bridge. The problem you face is that BS is rising and will probably continue. It's raining here now and most of it will be held in BS.

OK. We'll certainly give the fishing at Empire a chance, but it sounds like we need to pack the harmonicas and guitars just in case we need to fill the time with something else.

are they catching many whites at the pot hole?

Not that I'm aware of. The west side is the only one fishable.

Well, I was hoping to give you guys a decent fishing report, but that isn't going to happen. There was so much junk in the water (logs, trash, etc) that it made it almost impossible to catch anything. We tried several lures and baits, but nothing would produce.

Yeah and it looks like BS is going to get another rise. At least the rest of the area, wet and dry, is a lot healthier than last year.
