Water is in great shape at Roaring River state park, the recent heavy rains
missed the park area for the most part, the river came up a bit one day and it was
back down in a few hrs, the river as of this morning is about normal and clear.
Great dry fly fishing the past few weeks, blue wing olives, caddis, midges, hoppers,
ants, and beetles have all been good. Nymphs are still effective, pheasant tails, burlaps,
sow bugs, brassies, san juan worms, chamois worms, army worms, and zebra midges are
all working great right now.
With the clear water a 9' 7X leader is best, you can get by with a bit heaiver in the mornings,
but when the sun is high, use the lightest leader you can stand to use.
2lb, or 3lb line is best on a spin or spincast reel right now, I like the maxima or the P-line, but
there are a few others out there that work ok.
Power eggs in white, fl. yellow, fl. orange and hatch brown have all been good. for best results
use a very small hook, and a 3/0 or heaiver sinker.
Worms are very good right now, the electric chicken, john deer, black/yellow, pink/yellow
white, mint green and the orange/white have all been good colors.
Black/yellow, olive, dk. brown, tan and the gray Roaring River specials and marabou jigs
have all been working great, 1/32 and smaller seem to be best right now, micro jigs in olive,
white, black/yellow, ginger, and the lt. blue have all been good.
Black, blue, green, white, and dk. brown spinners have been working very well, the 1/16 or lighter
are working very well right now, if you have them a small crankbait crawdad or a rapala minnow will
work very well right now also.
Glo-balls, thread jigs, small mini grubs or jigs will work very well fished under a small indicator in zone 2 with your spinning gear or fly rod.
In zone 3, minnows, night crawlers, red wigglers, yellow powerbait paste, and the captian America powerbait paste is pretty good right now. Good luck on the river this week.
