Members MattS Posted June 20, 2013 Members Posted June 20, 2013 What is the river like right now? Plan on heading down tomorrow. I heard they stocked 30,000 browns from 10"-12" range a couple of days ago. Any advice on what to use and where to go. Plan on fishing the area from Tan Vat to Baptist if it is not to crowded.
Nortrad Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 Not sure about that many stocked, but the river has been at great levels. I'd go to Baptist, walk down and work your way back to lot. Or, walk down trail from Tan Vat and do the same.
Idylwilde Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 Subtract about 20,000 from that # and you will be in the ball park! 30,000 for a year on a good year. Take a Child Fishing they are the future of the sport.
Members Uncle Tupe Posted June 21, 2013 Members Posted June 21, 2013 Fished from Baptist to near Ashley yesterday. Water level was great. It was good to see that much water back in the river as opposed to last year. I could tell there was a recent stocking as 10 inch browns were the prevalent hook up around Baptist. Fished a hopper/dropper or caddis/dropper on the way down with equal takes. Took a rest near Ashley tied on a Pats Rubberlegs and a long leader/tippet and had one fantastic afternoon. Not to many browns but many fat and thick 12 to 16 inch rainbows coming deep out of all the holes working back down to Baptist. Get out there before the heat of summer hits us.
Members MattS Posted June 21, 2013 Author Members Posted June 21, 2013 Sorry about the wrong number or trout stocked, added an extra zero. Fished mostly below Tan Vat and caught 12 in three hours. Very good morning. I will say if you want to get good fishing in you have to fish late/early. The fishing died with the heat, sun, and floaters ending my day. Hatch was going on all day and fished caddis and did very well with them. Only my second time for fishing the Current, first time at Tan Vat. Really impressed me. 11 Rainbows 1 Brown. 2 Bows over 15

I fished up from Parker Wednesday. The bite was consistent from 0630-1600. One just has to adjust their tactics as the day moves on. Those darn pesky stocker browns were bunched up and hitting about anything. I must say they are happy after a bland diet at Sheppard of the Hills hatchery. All those little browns were fat from gorging on larva, scuds, minnows, etc... no more trout chow for them!

Was it hot that day? Because it got very hot when I was fishing and all of the fish I saw were hugging the bottom and didn't look like they were going to take anything I threw at them.
