rangerman Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 I fished last week out of diamond city and went about 7 miles in each direction...Had a banner week with a total unknown amount of walleye caught. Had good quality fish everyday and a number of them..Trolling was not the most productive for me however did catch couple of 19 inchers on #7 flicker shads and lost a 27+ on A #9 Flicker Shad. Most fish were on the downlake side of points with most consistent depth being 18-26 feet. Caught 99.9 percent of my fish on crawler rigs pulled at 1.1-1.4mph.. Find a point with some brsh of some sort and the walleye will be there. On a side note, a few cleaned did have crawdads in them. Sad part is I only have a couple of photos of some of the fish, as I fished by myself most of the week. It was relaxing though.... :-)
powerdive Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 On a tip from rangerman, a friend and I fished out of Diamond City yesterday, and we had both a great day and a horrible day. On the plus side, we caught about 20 eyes, with 6 legals (we kept 3 fat 20-21 inch toads). On the down side, between us we lost 6--count 'em, 6--large walleyes. Not kidding--we totally stunk up the place. Only one was on a crank--that was a boatside "release" which happens sometimes--the others were all on crawler rigs. They just straightened the hooks on us. Time to rethink the gear (we used re-purposed trolling sticks with braid and light-wire hooks), the drag settings, etc. Unbelievable. Never ever had that problem before. The eyes are super-aggressive right now. All our fish came from flooded points at 18-25 feet, with 23-24 being best. Could've been a really special day.......
Jeff Olson Posted June 26, 2013 Posted June 26, 2013 hey P-D, good to see you had a great day!. it has been fun with how aggressive they are, I cant believe some of the runs they are making below the boat! ( you must have had a really good day because you didn't even mention anything about the bass bothering you! LOL! ) thanks for the report!
powerdive Posted June 26, 2013 Posted June 26, 2013 We only caught two or three bass all day, Jeff. That alone makes the day memorable. The big eyes must've run 'em off. Gotta love the Bull!
Members Will May Posted March 15, 2014 Members Posted March 15, 2014 Nice pics Rangerman. We fished a little lower in the lake around that time. Lots of short eyes but enough keepers. Keepers on cranks, shorts on crawler rigs. Heade there again in early June.
rangerman Posted March 16, 2014 Author Posted March 16, 2014 Thanks Will, that time can't get here soon enough!
