Members AmericanAngler Posted July 5, 2013 Members Posted July 5, 2013 Took the fam and and SLT Staff down to the Finley by KK yesterday. We had a blast hanging out swimming and fishing. I caught 3 Smallies on Trantham Crawlers and had a heck of a time trying to get the Largies to bite. Bluegill were in good form of course. We even caught a baby Alligator Snapping Turtle. It was a good ol time all around. "Let me fish or else"
vonreed Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 That's a nice looking smallie, looks like a keeper. I don't think that turtle is an alligator snapping turtle though. I caught one a couple years ago and it didn't look like that! They have an extremelly thick shell with a HUGE head and a real spike shell.
Members AmericanAngler Posted July 9, 2013 Author Members Posted July 9, 2013 Wasn't sure a friend of mine told it was one. Said it was just a baby, lol. "Let me fish or else"
RSBreth Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 The common Snapper is, well, common on the James and Finley - I've only seen a few Alligators in my time in the Ozarks and never around the Finley. Still a cool find.
Members AmericanAngler Posted July 10, 2013 Author Members Posted July 10, 2013 Yeah we seen a larger one down that way before near KK. This little guy had light bumps on his shell that you could feel under the moss. The rear end looked bumpy and spiked. If you look at my FB you can see the rest of the pics there. Members AmericanAngler Posted July 10, 2013 Author Members Posted July 10, 2013 Well I think it actually may be a common snapper now. "Let me fish or else"
