John Andrews Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 hey folks, heading to Ally springs camp ground this weekend 7/11 - 7-14. I never fished this area and am looking for advice on what lures, plastics, rigging styles, etc. are working in that area. Keep in mind I release ALL my fish so they can be caught another day. Just looking to catch a few while floating the Jacks. Any advice would be very helpful. Thanks all.
countryred Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 That's a nice float from Alley to Eminence. Last time I was down there 6/23/13 , I got bit on a 4" Gulp finesse worm rigged texas style with an 1/8 weight on 8 lb floro. The fish seemed to be hunkered down around and under the wood. Lots of traffic that day. But I am still learning to fish that type of water. Good luck , its an awesome place.
John Andrews Posted July 7, 2013 Author Posted July 7, 2013 thanks I see a bass pro trip this week!!!!!!
countryred Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 I know a lot of the local guys throw tubes, chomper grubs, and flukes there too.
John Andrews Posted July 11, 2013 Author Posted July 11, 2013 Well bought some zoom worms, crawfish and some beetle spins to add to the tackle box. Talked to a guy that killed 'em last weekend on purple with blue flake. Also taking the fly fishin gear. I'll let ya know how we do.
John Andrews Posted July 15, 2013 Author Posted July 15, 2013 WELL we had a great time. The float trip from Alley to Eminence was beutiful (except for all the beer cans sunk to the bottom along the river ) people are ***ing pigs. My buddy found the winning bait small red and brown crawdads on 1/8 ounce jig heads. we caught smallies up to 13.5 inches, Goggle eye also liked 'em. We were in at 6:30 am out at noon. Stopped several times along the way for pics and to fish some nice holes. A GREAT TIME!!!!!!!! I am impressed how hard them smallies fight. They make largemouth look kinda wimpy.
countryred Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 Thanks for the report John. Sounds like you had a great time. Did you catch any pickerel on that stretch?
John Andrews Posted July 16, 2013 Author Posted July 16, 2013 Nope smallies, goggle eye, and what to me looked like a blue gill without the markings looked like what we call a white perch back home.
