Guest Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 I've fished the lake numerous times but not ventured upriver to the canoe rental areas. What's a good stretch to float and wade without all the extra traffic? I'm looking for 2-5 miles stretches that I can slow down and pick apart. Any kind of advice or info will help bc I know nothing about this area. Thanks
On The Fly 6 Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 The further up highway 10 you can go, the better. Traffic slows down a little during the weekdays as well. What about the area from Horseshoe Bend up to the Baron Fork? Can it be fished from a jon boat? Is there any possbile way to launch a river jon at Lake Francis? Im just looking for a place away from the crowds. Also, can you float a canoe from the Chewey bridge to Round Hollow public access?
DaddyO Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 You can, definitely, float a canoe from Chewey bridge to Round Hollow. Riverside Floats uses Chewey Bridge as their put-in. I usually pick up a few fish right at the concrete pylons and in the section of water 100 yards down from there and, of course, all along the river. DaddyO We all make decisions; but, in the end, our decisions make us.
hoglaw Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 Daddy, do you know how far up you can run in a boat from horseshoe before you encounter shoals that you have to drag over? Can you make it all the way to the barren fork confluence?
Danimal Posted July 12, 2013 Posted July 12, 2013 You can make it up there (and further), but it's tricky in places. I should mention also that we use a Shawnee river jon. Not a metal boat. Lots of smallies around that confluence. RELEASE THOSE BROWNIES!!
hoglaw Posted July 12, 2013 Posted July 12, 2013 Thanks Dan. I think I'm going to give it a shot tomorrow, but there's a motor restriction that starts at the confluence so that's probably the end of the road for me.
Members Chriswk77 Posted July 12, 2013 Members Posted July 12, 2013 How has the fishing been Below the dam?
Guest Posted July 17, 2013 Posted July 17, 2013 The Chewey access is full of meat fisherman dragging stringers from shoal to shoal. Where can I put in upstream of there and take out at Chewey?
