Members Beagle_nut Posted August 11, 2013 Members Posted August 11, 2013 Has anyone tried Montauk since the big rains last week? The wife and I are scheduled to come down for a few days next week and were wondering what to expect. Thanks.

Members BrianLich Posted September 18, 2013 Members Posted September 18, 2013 Headed down this weekend. Seems like we have some rain in the forecast all this week, but hopefully nothing flood-worthy. It's been a few months since I've been down to Montauk, so hopefully the crowds are thin and the fish are plentiful. Has anyone been recently?
3wt Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 I was there the weekend after labor day. Not bad on the crowds. Not exactly a ton of fish, but I'll take tough fishing with fewer people over easy catching in a crowd any day. We had to switch campsites when we got there, and I was surprised to find that they had some vacancies as late as Friday afternoon...not normal for the "on" season.
Jeff Tief Posted September 28, 2013 Posted September 28, 2013 Susie and I made a quick day trip to Montauk on Friday. Started in the campground below the big bridge and fished down to the old low water bridge.Caught a lot of rainbows and kept a few for the neighbors and friends in the 13-15" range.Had a picnic lunch and headed to the river about 2p.m. The high water recently had flattened out the upper end from below the cable to just above the cabins.Still had a little deeper trough along the far bank but not as good as cover as beore the flood.Caught 10 fish between us in a couple hours and that included fishing for several fish in the 3-4# range. Both had on rainbows that were brilliantly colored but didn't land two that were of lunker proportions.Didn't see many browns in the park or in the upper section of the river. Still a lot of small fish in the river.
mhall02 Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 I was there as well Friday. Fished the fly zone and all I caught were dinks. Got there around noon and left around 5:p.m., 6-7 smallish fish on olive buggers the first 1.5 hours, then it went dead. Managed to get 3-4 more on grey skuds, but disappointed with the size, seemed like 10" or less. Sounds like I should have fished further downstream
