Members Wornica Posted August 18, 2013 Members Posted August 18, 2013 First time to fish here on a Saturday morning. Lots of anglers, water is still high, green, but very fishable though it was slow today with most people just catching recently stocked rainbows. Managed to catch 4 on a white/pink glow ball, tan scud, chamois san juan worm and a renegade. My son threw out a dry fly near the bank in zone 2 and I was just about to tell him that it made no sense when I heard a crushing splash and I looked over to see my son's rod fully bent! He was using a patriot fly and it was crushed. He landed the fish and I am glad that I kept my mouth shut. Then about 8 trout started feeding on the surface just below where the hatchery outlet meets the spring in zone 2. That's when I got out the renegade and caught my last fish. Had a great time but I prefer to fish on the weekdays...
John W Kelly Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 I was there yesterday too. Your son didn't happen to be wearing brown neoprene waders and fishing across from a large rock face around 3:30 when he caught his fish was he? If so, he was one of the few people I saw catch any fish in the afternoon... The water was high and swift. Visibility into the water was 6-10 inches and it felt warmer than usual(?). I fished zone 1 mostly, caught 5 before 11:30 on some midges that I was testing out, then after that the fish disappeared. I overheard quite a bit of grumbling from the lack of a bite throughout the afternoon, then moved to zone 2 around 3:00 and caught 1 more near the hatchery outlet. It was slow fishing and kind of crowded, but a beautiful day!
Members Wornica Posted August 18, 2013 Author Members Posted August 18, 2013 No, he caught that fish around noon and just bought new waders and boots. I agree, it was slow...
Wayne SW/MO Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 I passed on the fishing. It was about as crowded as I've seen it. High water can be tough because the fish change their focus and add a lot of fishermen and it just adds to it. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
NoLuck Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 I'll be down for a week starting next Thursday. Hopefully the water will be pretty decent for fishing., If its not its no big deal as it still will be a good time.
Wayne SW/MO Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 It wasn't bad this weekend, they were fishing off the top of the dam. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
