Rusty Posted December 3, 2006 Posted December 3, 2006 My mother-in-law called last night and asked, if we would like to spend 2007 Christmas in Hawaii. My wife said yes, before she even asked. Darn the luck. I dislike sand, large groups of people and spending money, so is there any fly fishing to be done there? Just kidding on the dislikes, except one, sand. I haven't had a chance yet to google information, so if anyone has any experience with this, please let me know. Thanks in advance. Christmas this year has come early. Russ
Kansas Fly Fisher Posted December 3, 2006 Posted December 3, 2006 I personally don't have any knowledge about flyfishing in Hawaii, but if you need a guide? Take lots of pictures for us back here with the snow and cold. John Born to Fish, Forced to Work KSMEDIC.COM
Danoinark Posted December 3, 2006 Posted December 3, 2006 John Sounds like Rusty needs someone to keep sand out of his sandals more than a guide. Gosh Rusty, what a deal. I wonder if there are any inland rivers and lakes? I don't think I have ever heard about fly fishing in Hawaii. It may be open territory. You might find some new business ventures there. hehe Glass Has Class "from the laid back lane in the Arkansas Ozarks"
Rusty Posted December 3, 2006 Author Posted December 3, 2006 Forget the sandals, I'm taking my waders.
gonefishin Posted December 3, 2006 Posted December 3, 2006 I dont know anything about fly fishing there but a few years back I read some articles in a fly fishing publication about fly fishing in Hawaii. Seems to me like it would be a good place to go after bikini fish. I would rather be fishin'. "Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. motroutbum Posted April 3, 2007 Posted April 3, 2007 There is better fishing off of oahu. I will also be there christmas of 07. You shouldnt take anything less than an 8wt with preferably a shooting head. do some searches on fly fishing oahu, and you should beable to find some good stuff. I know my brother did. Im already tying for that trip. There are two types of people. Those who dream dreams and wish, then there are the do'ers. I am a do'er!
Terry Beeson Posted April 3, 2007 Posted April 3, 2007 Hmmmmm.... Lying on the beach checking out scantly clad Hawaiian and tourist babes roaming the sands... VS. Riding a boat off the coast with an ugly boat captain and first mate, getting seasick, and all to feel the tug of a stinkin' nasty fish... Decisions, decisions... Geez... and all my MIL gets me for Christmas is a set of handkerchiefs from WalMart... troutchaser Posted April 4, 2007 Posted April 4, 2007 Hankies, eh? All I got was half a pound of bacon. The other half went to the other son-in-law. I don't even eat bacon. Paul Rone
Rusty Posted April 4, 2007 Author Posted April 4, 2007 motroutbum~ I am going for Bones only. It pains me greatly to fork out this kind of money, so I am going to wade the flats and maybe hire guide. The time has changed anyway. They decided to go in June instead, which is even better, saving me even more money by going then. Yes, I am a tightwade when it comes to vacations, especially sense their is a lot of places here we haven't seen. I have a 9 wt TFO TiCr that has yet to be used. So I am going to break it in in the Pacific.
