Flatbottom Boy Posted October 12, 2013 Posted October 12, 2013 Took the kayak out after work tonight for a few hours on the big piney. The ducks and doves sure were moving around and got me excited for the upcoming duck season. I was able to connect with a few nice fish including this one, my biggest of the year just barely shy of 18". They were hitting a strike king river bug pretty good along with a fluke earlier in the evening. I caught a bunch of dinks but several were pushing that 16 and 17" mark and extremely fat. Great night to be out on the river.
Buzz Posted October 12, 2013 Posted October 12, 2013 Nice fish!!!! If fishing was easy it would be called catching.
SmallyWally Posted October 12, 2013 Posted October 12, 2013 Way to go Flatbottom. Kindness is the language the blind can see and the deaf can hear.-- Mark Twain
Kelroy Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 Very nice :-) having been living the "non-essential" lifestyle the last couple weeks, i took my new 'yak down to crossroads a few times that week. Caught several 14-16" on 1/8 oz brn/grn Bitsy Bugs. It's quite a challenge juggling boat, bass, and baitcaster at the same time. Good workout, too. Fish on!
Kayser Posted October 29, 2013 Posted October 29, 2013 Question- where do you access, and do you float or paddle? I've been meaning to hit the BP, but just haven't found a stretch that fit a "quick afternoon" for me. WARNING!! Comments to be interpreted at own risk. Time spent fishing is never wasted.
Flatbottom Boy Posted October 30, 2013 Author Posted October 30, 2013 I have a couple spots I access on the Fort. This one is toward the southern end, I paddle upstream until I'm tired then just work the river back slowly. I do quite a bit of anchoring and wading along the way trying to hit every piece of structure. The really good part of the piney we floated this year was from Wilderness outfitter down to the fort, not sure how hard that water gets fished but it seemed like the fish had never seen a fluke in their lives the way they devoured them. I live closer to the Gasconade but work on post so I get a good split between the two rivers.
