MOsmallies Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 Sounds like a great trip and one I'd love to do.... I don't wanna harp on you too much either since it is legal to keep legal sized smallmouth, but please please please consider releasing all your smallies. They take a long, long time to get big and the goggle eye taste way better anyway. Regardless, have a great trip and give us a report and some pictures once you return.
Guest Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 Yep, trophy smallmouth deserve a much better fate than to be turned into turds.

Don't recall him saying he was going to eat a trophy sized fish. With trophy being a relitive term. When you study research data, growth rates among all three black bass species in Missouri are relitivly close to one another in rivers. Chief Grey Bear Posted October 25, 2013 Posted October 25, 2013 Just reread the original post, looks like your are right Chief. Thought he was aiming to keep them from management section. I'm not a fan of keeping bass or many other fish from rivers but, I think if he had meal of smallmouth, the JF wouldn't even know it. How many do we think he is going to eat anyway? I put my money on two at best. Al Agnew Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 Yeah, the Jacks Fork has plenty of 12 inch smallies, so he isn't going to hurt the population any. I think it's just that we hate to encourage anybody to keep them. I'd have no problem keeping a couple to eat if I was depending upon a fish dinner and couldn't catch enough goggle-eye. I just don't like the guys who keep big ones, and who fill their freezers with them.
MOsmallies Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 We're not telling him he can't keep a couple legal smallmouth for dinner, we're just asking him to consider releasing all smallmouth.
Chief Grey Bear Posted October 28, 2013 Posted October 28, 2013 I just don't like the guys who keep big ones, and who fill their freezers with them. I don't either. I don't care for those that fill freezers with those from the shorter end of the scale either. But I don't think this is even remotely close to the case in this situation.
