Members raildog Posted December 26, 2013 Members Posted December 26, 2013 It would be nice to get some crappie reports from Truman once in a while. Really what I need is some help figuring out a pattern. What makes crappie hold in one spot and not another in the winter I'm just learning about winter crappie myself, my efforts last week netted a total of one crappie in 2 trips to the lake, so you can see I have a bit of a learning curve to get past. Maybe we can get a little conversation going? Kenny

rangerz21 Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 What area of the Lake are you fishing????
Members raildog Posted December 27, 2013 Author Members Posted December 27, 2013 Ranger I'm fishing the Long Shoal area. Thanks for the reply. Kenny
Bill B. Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 You'll find the most consistent crappie reports in the Missouri forum at www.Crappie.com. The Truman guys there have been quiet as of late. The few who are catching fish are fishing in the lower lake, I think. There's been lots of ice above Bucksaw.
rangerz21 Posted December 28, 2013 Posted December 28, 2013 Yes right now you can put in at shawnee bend, state park,or long shoal fish any bluff you should see the shad at 22-24fow the lake could be as deep as 40 foot all you need to do is fish the bait balls very typical for this time of year
Members raildog Posted December 28, 2013 Author Members Posted December 28, 2013 Thanks you Ranger, I'll give it a try.
ten_scoach Posted January 25, 2014 Posted January 25, 2014 In my opinion. What holds crappie in the winter is first and foremost shad and food. Forget structure, forget spring, shad! Big crappie are schooled around big shad balls. Find the shad you'll find the crappie. This winter my experience has been they are suspended at the top of the shad ball, not the bottom
