Members Addco Posted January 12, 2014 Members Posted January 12, 2014 Do any of you ever fish the area right at Noel. I was thinking of launching my kayak in the little city park area across from Shadow Lake. Basically thinking it would be easy to put in and take out in the same place and figured you could fish until mid day before the floaters really arrive. I know it's winter but can't wait for spring and summer.
Chief Grey Bear Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 I think you have to pay at that spot. I don't think it is a park. The entrance is by the Dollar General. I can't remember the name of the place off hand. Members KeithJones Posted February 2, 2014 Members Posted February 2, 2014 The place you're thinking of is Sycamore Landing, Chief. You do have to pay for that spot, but there's a city park across the river. It's actually up Butler Creek about 50 yards, but Butler is deep enough to float in and out of. It's across Main Street from the night club. I'm thinking the same thing as Bleeding Shiner up there. There's a little riffle at the upper end of Shadow Lake, but I think I can haul my boat over that pretty easily. Above that, the river is slow all the way back to Two Sons. Another access point that one can float back and forth to is Mt. Shira. It's slow about a mile up from there, and I think there are some decent fish above the campground.
Members Addco Posted February 3, 2014 Author Members Posted February 3, 2014 Thanks for the input. I have floated the Elk many times but just purchased a new fishing kayak and will probably have some solo outings so that is why I was hoping for the put in and take out being the same area. I hadn't thought about Mt Shira and paddling up above Ginger Blue, but that would be good also. Does anyone know anyone doing shuttles that far down for a decent price? I asked Shady Beach once, we planning on putting in at Pineville and floating back to SB. We would drop our kayaks in Pineville and leave a person there. Another drive to SB and just catch a ride. They quoted me $25, which at the time was the same as renting a kayak.
Members KeithJones Posted February 3, 2014 Members Posted February 3, 2014 I *believe* River Ranch quoted $10 last summer, but that was when I asked about having them haul a friend's kayak back up to where they put and floating back down to RR, so he could float down with us in our rented kayaks. I think the campground in Anderson will shuttle you on Indian Creek, though I don't remember how much they charge. There's no easy way to do it. The second best idea I've had involves my wife 1) following me to where I would pull out, 2) leaving her vehicle there and riding back with me to my put in, 3) taking my Jeep back and picking up her van. I haven't actually convinced her to do this with me, however. The best idea is to find a friend who wants to do exactly what you want to do.
