Members cReekFishin Posted January 23, 2014 Members Posted January 23, 2014 Planning on a trip to Stockton this weekend tho try to find some crappie. Unfortunately I don't have a boat. Any recommendations on where I could find some from the bank? Maybe high point?
Members Haulin Bass Posted January 24, 2014 Members Posted January 24, 2014 I usually see the locals fishing by the bridge at the CC access. If you can get your jig out far enough, just pull it in real slow,,,, and you should have "some" action. But i think it will be a slow go where ever you go this weekend. This cold snap will send them DEEP! P.S. last year this time, we caught several BASS right off the shore up by State Park Marina. And you'll be sheilded by any high winds too. good luck
powerdive Posted January 24, 2014 Posted January 24, 2014 West end of the 215 (Mile Long) bridge, underneath the the bridge on the north side. It's a steep/bluff shoreline with a nice flat shelf above the waterline, and there's a marked brushpile there within casting distance. Probably tops out at about 20 feet. Jigs or slip bobbers/minnows fished at various depths would probably score some fish once you zeroed it in. Pitch a jig along the bluff, you might score a walleye also.
ten_scoach Posted January 25, 2014 Posted January 25, 2014 Pd......always spot on where to connect with some "fish-on" action. Thank you for sharing. I have been out a few times this winter and my experience has been fish hanging out more on the top of shad instead of bottom. I think fishing from shore 99% of efforts would be just because you like looking at the water. If you can isolate like pd has described, you can get on some fish. Good luck and post your production.
powerdive Posted January 25, 2014 Posted January 25, 2014 Yessir, we've done better fishing the tops of the shad schools this year also. Don't know why. Probably just doing it more because it's just more fun when you can watch your lure, raise it up, and entice a fish to come up out of the school and take it.
