cpriest Posted December 16, 2006 Posted December 16, 2006 Fished Taney for the 1st time today, and it was all that i expected plus more. Got on the water about 9 and caught a nice rainbow right off the bat. They fishing was consistent from then til around 1, and then it got much slower. I had a little luck on a mclellans hunchback scud in tan, but had the most fish, including a 18" brown on a fellow OA sowbug, or "sowpig" as he calls it, in olive. I want to thank everyone for posting, especially all the reports on Taney. Thanks to yall i had the first of many experiences fishing this great tailwater. By the way, someone forgot to mention that a 10" stocker in Taney fights like a 18" in Beaver!
Don Posted December 16, 2006 Posted December 16, 2006 I fished Taney on the 15th as well. It was a tough day. It was also surprisingly crowded. It was sunny, warm, and calm. I netted about 10 fish between 12:30 and 5:00. Nothing of size, all stockers. Caught fish on tan scuds, pheasant tail nymph, egg pattern, and copper zebra midge. I'd usually catch one as soon as I tied on a fly then they would wise up and nothing. I caught most fish stripping wooly buggers. Caught fish on olive, white, and ginger colored buggers; drifting, swinging, and stripping. I missed and lost alot of fish on buggers as well. I couldn't have asked for a nicer day in December to be out on the lake. Don Don May I caught you a delicious bass.
Murdoc Posted December 16, 2006 Posted December 16, 2006 Started fishing around 7am this moring. Lots around #2outlet. We went up a little bit. Started fishing with the fly egg. Started catching right off the bat. about 9am the horn blew and I'm not sure what was going on. The river came up a little bit and then started dropping again. I guess the grid needed a kick start. Started working my way up to #1. Started seeing some fish around the outlet and put a skud on. It got hot fast! We were catching fish everywhere. Had something happen that I hadn't happen to me before. I cast out and right before the skud hit the water a real nice brown jumped out of the water and grabbed my skud out of the air!!! No kidding!!! It was about 4lbs. Nice Fish!! I brought my cousin that is just back from Kuiwait. Glad to have him and his son home!!! Thank all of you for what you have and are doing for us. Great day!! Beautiful day!! Even tried dry flys and caught lots. 40+fish day. Smiles are free http://rdpflyrods.com/
Dave Cook Posted December 17, 2006 Posted December 17, 2006 I fished just below the Rocking Chair on Saturday, staying on the gravel bank. They started one generator around 9 and I didn't notice the water dropping until 11. That's when the fishing heated up. I had been working an olive woolie along the gravel bank with some success. When the water slowed down it was a strike on every cast for the next hour. And almost that hot the following hour. Most or the fish were the small stocker size. They couldn't get enough of chasing a fly. Bewteen the falling water and the wind gusts moving the water downstream, the action stayed good. They were still biting when I quit at 2. One more thing. The color of the water kind of looked like green tea. So there has to be some mixing going on up on Table Rock. Dave Cook Missouri Trout Fishermen's Association - Kansas City
Tightline Posted December 17, 2006 Posted December 17, 2006 I started fishing today (Sat.)at 7:00 AM just above old boat ramp and did very well ,had 15 before the horn blew and then they just QUIT.I moved up to the Big Hole where the faster water made a back flow eddie and started catching them again caught 10 more before the water started dropping about 11:00.I then moved up to the south side of the Rebar while the water was dropping and just couldn't do anything wrong for about an hour. Lost track of how many I caught there but it was an easy 15-20. The only reason I do try to keep track is that I keep a fishing trip log book, have for over 25 years, its been really helpful at times especially when Bass fishing. I used black 1/32 wooly jig early and after the water stared rising I went to a double set of 1/32 sculpin colored jigs and they just loved them. Most all were 12-14 inchers but I did have one nice 20 inch Rainbow. Left at 1:00 pm and they were still biting. Great Day. TL
