flyfishmaster Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 My plan all week long was to make Open Day at Bennett Springs, but my project in Springfield ended early so I was able to head back east on Friday, so I hit the Current River in instead on the Eve of Open Day at Montauk. My expectation was that the river was going to be crowded, but I was surprised to have a lot of room to fish (until 10:30 am) in the Tan Vat area. I catch fish steadily throughout the morning on multiple nymph variations. Then around 10:30 – 11 those skipping caddis starting to hit the water. The remaining part of the day I used dry flies. At 12ish, I left the Tan Vat lot (since there were 13 vehicles there) and moved down to Baptist Camp (only one other car). The Caddis hatch was still going strong with fish raising frequently. This is my first trip to the Current that I have to say I catch 4 times more fish on dry files than I did on the nymphs. I left around 3:30, as the Baptist Camp lot started to fill up as well. But left the Current very pleased since the fish mutilated 6 of my dry flies and the quality of the fish was above my expectations as well. So hope everyone that stayed for Open day had fun. Later, FFM Woo Hoo Fish On!!
Ill Trout Bum Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 I also fished Tan vat to Baptist Friday morning. I had the same experience using dries. Brought several nice fish to hand including a 16" brown. Scott
