Members redtickstreed Posted April 8, 2014 Members Posted April 8, 2014 Where would be the best place to walk fish on the bank Taylor up to Orleans or orleans on up? Also is the Sac river road tore up bad I had a buddy said its was really rough this year. I plan on making a trip Thursday.
Members Rick Baker Posted April 8, 2014 Members Posted April 8, 2014 They are all bad with potholes but nothing you cant swerve around. The entrance to the launch under Taylor's bridge is a little washed out. Walking along the bank around Orleans bridge is much easier than around Taylor's. But there is a trail on the east side of the river and you can walk in between the two. I would fish the steel bridge(Orleans) first since it's closer to the lake.
Bill Butts Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 agree with Rick..... the most productive fishing in a normal water level season is the first 3-4 shoals above lake backwater. does that make sense? so, in short, as the run develops you should concentrate on the water from Orleans bridge upriver about 2 miles. water temps have not stabilized at night, so subtle temp changes mess with our beloved spawning species, namely walleye and white bass. their metabolism is affected with temp swings, therefore they either retreat to a little deeper water or just hang near the bottom and don't feed as frequently. very wise to carry and use a thermometer to track temps, especially for future reference from year to year. suggest everyone keep a log/journal of their experiences. hope this helps..... Members redtickstreed Posted April 9, 2014 Author Members Posted April 9, 2014 Thanks guys I have never fished that area but I love working small creeks I have a spot for smallmouth that is amazing in the fall its a bit of a drive but nothing like wading the river with the leaves changing above you. So whats the best route to Orleans from Springfield?
Members Rick Baker Posted April 9, 2014 Members Posted April 9, 2014 44 to 160. Turn at 123 after Willard. Go through walnut grove. Then through Eudora. Strait off the corner onto 50th. Turn right at 505th.
Members redtickstreed Posted April 11, 2014 Author Members Posted April 11, 2014 Well got to make a run to Orleans today got there around 4:30 fished the west side from the bridge north to where the river splits. Rooster tail produced 3 small mouths, all put together would still have not been a keeper. Switched over to a white swimming minnow with a chart.1/8 oz head caught 4 very small large mouth. Switched to a smoke colored 2 inch paddle tail with a black 1/8 oz head and caught 3 tiny white bass. Last lure was a rapala countdown only had one with me and hooked a 12-15 pound carp on 4 lb test and lost them both, so I got mad lol and went to Taylor I got lost on the way over but still got to see some nice sows on a few stringers. I talked with some real nice people and had a good time. A few more days the should get rolling. There was some guys on the East side of the bridge at Orleans had a basket full of fish but I have no clue what they were or what they were catching them on. I am heading back up Sunday unless I here that they are biting.
