Members Boz1 Posted April 14, 2014 Members Posted April 14, 2014 Just got back from a Thursday to Sunday trip and had a wonderful time on the eleven point camping and fishing. The fishing was fair not a ton of fish but no one got skunked either. No one boasted their limit but we caught enough to make us happy. We caught them on all different kinds of lures nothing in particular just fun to try different stuff from your tackle box. We fished around turner on Thursday and Greer to turner on Friday and turner to whitten on Saturday. No one caught any in the blue ribbon area I don't know why we even bother doing that stretch of the river because we do horrible there I guess we just like the float. We did have a little mishap at turner I went to step out of the boat and there was no bottom so the boat went with me and we dumped. There was a place to step out but then it dropped off and that is where I stepped into, about 5 feet deep. We were able to find all our poles and just about all our stuff so it really was no big deal just made for a good laugh. We had a great time with the rope swing too somewhere above whitten, man that was fun I felt like a teenager. I did hook what I can only assume was a dandy I haven't ever felt a fish fight like that before down there I didn't have much line left on my pole and it didn't take the fish long to run it all out. Oh well if it were easy to catch the big ones then there wouldn't be any left. There is always next time but thank you for this time eleven point.

Mark Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 I never have luck in the blue ribbon area either. Sounds like they still haven't made the first stocking of the year in the white ribbon yet. Glad you caught enough for supper. Hoping to make it down this weekend if the weather cooperates and the rain holds off. What's the river level like? Plenty of firewood available? See many people? I know the feeling of tipping trying to get out of the canoe. The water always looks shallower that it actually is - watch out, that first step is a doozy!!
Members Boz1 Posted April 14, 2014 Author Members Posted April 14, 2014 River was in great shape the only thing we had to do is when we went left on the first island below Greer we had to pull the boat in two spots. The other guy in our group went right and had no problem, I just wanted to get to that big hole (stair step hole I believe it might be called) and fish it. We did see a good amount of people on Saturday and a few campers at Turner and Whitten. There is so much wood in the forest you don't have to go far and you can fill your truck in minutes for a few nights. Good luck this weekend Mark I would go along but my family would kill me.
