My son and I went bass fishing out of Ruark on Sunday. Got on the water at about 10:30 and immediately started fighting the wind. It seemed like no matter where we went, the wind would eventually find us. Fishing was really slow and we tried a lot of different baits including crank baits (shallow and deep), suspending jerk baits, spinner baits and a couple of different colors of Texas rigged Berkley Chigger Craws (our hot soft plastic from the last couple of years). Other than one short caught on a suspending jerk bait, the ONLY thing they seemed to want to bite on was a green with black fleck skirted hula grub on a stand-up jig head and that bite was very subtle. Most of our dozen or so fish were caught in 6-10 feet of water on windy banks at the mouth of secondary coves. We caught mostly males with a few females in the mix. The biggest fish would have gone 3 lbs or so. Water temps ranged from a low of 57 to a high of 62.

We talked to several other fishermen some of whom were fishing for crappie and others for bass who all said it was a pretty slow day. Still great to be on the lake on a sunny Sunday afternoon in May.

Good luck!

We had a slow Sunday too I was fishing a pb&j football jig and the girlfriend was throwing a biffle bug in green pumpkin. I threw a crank bait a little with nothing and caught one on a shakey head. Saw a lot of fish on the shallow flats but they seemed to have other things on their mind. Eating was not high on the list at least the ones we found. It was way different than the last 2 weeks where they were biting great.
