Got rained out this morning at the farm, and my friend and neighbor that also farms asked if I wanted to go with him this morning to Current river to chase some Smallies. What was I suppose to say....why heck yea!! We got there this morning around 630 and started fishing with some topwater, and nabbed a few Smallies right off the bat, it was cloudy and early and that must of helped. After awhile we worked some rock dikes that were installed for erosion, and that produced some more decent smallies. My friend Jody and his son Ethan were chucking Bandit Crankbaits, and I was throwing my trusty Senko, we both caught fish equally with each. Around 930 we decided to venture upriver and try some new water, and ran onto a nice stretch of water with a lot of boulers and current, it started out swift and tapered off as we drifted about half a quarter, in the swift water we picked up some fish on crankbaits, then as it tapered off, Jody brought out a Zoom Brushhog, and I used a Jennybugs Creek critter with a grub trailer. After catching a few fish a piece, Jody hung into what I believe was a 19 plus inch smallie, this thing was a Dandy. I got a great look at it, but as I got the net ready to nab it, it threw the hook out and slung the brushhog across the water. Needless to say, my blood was pumping after that.

I had also been throwing a Bandit crankbait with a squarebill, but Jody's had a deeper bill, so I decide to try my Bomber 6a, that did the trick, caught several after that in the swifter water. I was set with that and my Senko for the rest of the day! My friends little boy caught 8 or 9 himself, and he decided he liked my senko's. I tried to keep somewhat of a count but lost count after awhile. We boated somewhere around 35 smallies 10 Kentuckys and numorous nice goggleyes that i'm wishing now i'd kept a few for the skillet. Also on some smaller crankbaits we tried, we caught some really nice Bluegill, there's some good ones in there. My phone died about half way threw the trip, so I missed some pics of the nicer fish we caught, several in the 15 range, no gaints other that that one we lost, but good quality and fight. Also, several of them were extremely dark colored, like that the first pic, I think those were really cool! Back to work for me in the morning, but it sure was nice getting my Smallie fix in, ready for another 80 hour week!!

There's no such thing, as a bad day fishing!
