post-14803-0-44805800-1403036367.jpgPardon the phone flash in the middle of the image, but you can get the general idea...what is this mass? Shad? Plankton? USOs (as opposed to UFOs)?

This was what I saw just at sunrise this morning in front of the dam. The readout on the screen is correct: the water is 185 feet deep here.

It's enough to make a person mount downriggers just to see...

Sorry-- I've been trying to edit the image as it came in upside down. When I flipped the image in Preview so that it was upside down, it came in upside down again. I'll post it regardless..

Like I said, it came through that way, and I couldn't change it to the right way. Maybe someone can help...

Having said that--that mass brackets the 60-foot mark, and it appears pretty solid. I've seen stuff like that in the ocean, but not in freshwater.

Could be an algae bloom

Looks like interference from another sonar unit that is running the same ( or very close to the same ) frequency .....depending on the power of the other sonar unit and the sensitivity of your unit, it could be a half a mile (or better) away from you and your unit....

The picture show the interference starting to repeat, only starting deeper , which shows a time difference of the signal being out of sync reaching your unit...

At 60' down?

Dam end is very clear and there is an algae bloom starting on the lake.

Not sonar overlap IMO. I'be had that before and it looks like a series of repeating lines. Same interval and spacing.

This appears to be plankton/algae in my opinion. Too deep for bait. Well.....probably too deep even on the dam end of the lake with really clear water.
