gonefishin Posted December 30, 2005 Posted December 30, 2005 Where are all the panfish or panfishermen for that matter. Seems kinda quiet here. I am waiting for someone to tell me where in all the Ozarks is the best place to catch the big 'gills and Redear. I would rather be fishin'. Members moose50 Posted December 31, 2005 Members Posted December 31, 2005 i like to crappie fish, actually if somethin bites my line im happy. i dont know much about the ozark area for panfish. i usually get up to mark twain a few times a year, not as much as i like but some is better than none i guess. twain is ok, it kinda took a hit the last 10 years or so but last year a guy at the baitshop told me that mdc says its on the rebound and lookin better. i dont know really never reaserched any further on it. ill be leaving reports on the twain lake section once i finally get to go back up there.
gonefishin Posted January 7, 2006 Author Posted January 7, 2006 moose50: Thanks for the reply and sorry it has taken me so long to respond. Like you I am usually happy if something is just biting. I have heard that Mark Twain is up and comming. I would like to hear some reports. I have never fished there but if the fishing heats up I would come over and give it a try. I plan to try some of the lakes up in the north western part of the state this year. According to the MDC there is some really good redear fishing up that way. I have caught a few redear out of the rock but not with any consistancy. Of course the rock is a big lake and I may not be fishing the right areas. I would appreciate it if people would let me know where or if they are catching them. I will let you know how they are biting in the areas I fish. Bud I would rather be fishin'. Bud Bud, You might inquire about Fellows Lake on the north end of Springfield, closer to home for you. They used to have a very good population of big Redear especially in the lower lake. There are some big Muskies in there now, so they may have reduced the numbers, but I suggest you check it out with the MDC or call the marina on the lake. gonefishin Posted January 8, 2006 Author Posted January 8, 2006 I go out there once in a while. Have never caught a RedEar there. Caught a few gills and a crappie and a couple of Muskie. It is really really low now. Needs some water bad. Will be going there again soon. Probably tomorrow. WIll let you know if I catch anything. Bud I would rather be fishin'. gonefishin Posted January 8, 2006 Author Posted January 8, 2006 As they say the best laid plans of men and mice........... Had company today that hung around like Sadies drawers so I didn't get to go fishing. Guess there is always tomorrow. Like Butts says "so many fish, so little time" Bud I would rather be fishin'. Members Pete Posted January 9, 2006 Members Posted January 9, 2006 About four or five years ago, went to Bushwacker lake (Barton/Vernon county) fishing for crappie and bass in the spring. What I found is a great population of large redears. Have not been able to get up there and fish it since then, but I have the memory of a fun couple of trips.

Back in them days there were lots of fish but all of them were small. I am glad to hear there are large ones in there now. I will go up that way and give them a try this spring. Nothing puts up a fight like a 2 lb RedEar on an ultralight outfit or a 3/4 wt fly rod. ) Thanks for the info Bud I would rather be fishin'. gonefishin Posted January 11, 2006 Author Posted January 11, 2006 I reckon I will try to go fishing again tomorrow - if company don't show up again. Anyone know where I can get an in-law proof door? If I make it out I will post a report on where an when. Bud I would rather be fishin'. "Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. gonefishin Posted January 13, 2006 Author Posted January 13, 2006 Went fishing at Fellows Lake for a few hours today. Caught a few smallish bluegills, 2 small crappie and one Muskie (about 6 inches long). Water is really low and fairly clear concidering the rain we had a couple of days ago. Not a lot of fish and no Redear but all in all it was a good day. Like they say a bad day on the water beats a great day at work anytime. Bud I would rather be fishin'.
