Members ty424ler Posted August 3, 2014 Members Posted August 3, 2014 Fellows crappie are on fire right now! Caught a limit yesterday and 20+ today but didnt keep any since I have plenty in the deep freezer. All keepers were in the 10" to 11" range, caught a handfull of fish yesterday and today that went over 13" and one that was 15 1/2". All the big ones went back, no need to keep them when there are so many 10 and 11" fish, turn those big ones free! All fish both days were caught in brushpiles with tube jigs and minnows with minnows being the most productive. When i say fishing brush I mean you have to actually be in the brush with weedless jigheads, I tried a slip float above them and tried to tight line over the top of the piles but they seem to want it in the brush, if I wasnt bumping brush on my retrieve I wouldnt catch fish. Get out and get in on the action, fishing should be hot through first part of september!
Members Hubcap Hunter Posted August 8, 2014 Members Posted August 8, 2014 I tried some bank fishing for Crappie last weekend, but they wouldn't have anything to do with me or my offerings. I take it you are in a boat with some electronics helping you find these brush piles? I only have an 85 hp Johnson, but have been itching to go to Fellows and get in on some of this action. Are there any places a guy can fish off the bank and find some brush, other than the courtesy fishing dock?
Members ty424ler Posted August 9, 2014 Author Members Posted August 9, 2014 Yes I am fishing in a boat with electronics. I always fish the south side of the lake but I am going to try the north side next trip out. I went tonight and they are still on piles and we caught them on minnows, no bites on the jigs tonight. Try looking at this map, there are several piles in the coves west of the boat ramp that my be able to be bank fished. http://egis.mdc.mo.gov/statewidefishattractors/index.html You have to zoom in above springfield this is a state wide map but it is a good map. Hope it helps
Members Wally Stalker Posted September 4, 2014 Members Posted September 4, 2014 I came over to fellows lake on labor day weekend (sunday the 31st) and had the best Walleye day fishing I have had in a long time. I landed 4 keepers smallest one was 19" and biggest was 25'' witch was my limit. But I did loose 3 others that was 22'' plus and one that was approx. 26'' plus. and threw back approx. 10 to 15 fish that was under 15'' And I caught them all with in 2 1/2 hours. They was 8' to 12' feet deep on south arm south bank and I was trolling with Rapala SRRS-4 crank bait approx. 2mph. I want to say there is some every nice Walleye in Fellows Lake. I have landed a 27'' 3/4 inch Walleye over there and for Missouri that's a big Walleye!
Hunter91 Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 Very nice! I have had success with the eyes there also.
