I have an old Orvis Madison reel made by Pflueger. It looks just like a medalist. Its the model 6/7.

Anyone have experience with changing these reels from left hand to right hand retrieve. I have searched and can't seem to find any instructions.

I too have an Orvis Madison reel complete with the original instructions. The instructions for changing the retrieve are:

"To change to right hand wind, simply remove the spool from the frame, remove the clutch gear on the spindle of the reel, flip it over, replace it on the spindle and replace the spool."

Hope this helps.

Rollcaster...excellent just what I needed. But guess you know what happened next right?

When I lifted up the clutch gear (ratchet), bang, out flys the click and pawl spring. I have looked all evening for it. :( I found one place to order some spare parts for the pflugers. Hope they will work on this one. These were made by Pflueger at its Fayetteville, Ark plan (now closed down) in the 70's.

Is this what your's looks like?

The spec sheet I sent has a parts breakdown. You may be able to get them from Orvis. I found the sheet embedded in their site. I did an online chat, and the next thing I knew I had the info. Might work for parts as well.

Just a thought.

Dano, sorry to hear of your trouble. My reel doesn't look anything like yours. Mine is a Model 111-D with no identifying marks to indicate the manufacturer or where it was made.

Incidently, when I converted the retrieve from right hand to left hand there were no springs or other parts that came flying out. Just flipped over the clutch gear and reinstalled the spool. Simple as that. Hope you find all the parts.

Dano, If all else fails, you can send the reel back to Orvis and for ten dollars they will recondition the reel and replace the errant parts.
