countryred Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 We are planning to be working and playing at our property during the Labor Day weekend. Might do a little fishing too, How are the crowds and party people in that area?
Al Agnew Posted August 17, 2014 Posted August 17, 2014 Don't know, since I avoid all streams with canoe rentals on holiday weekends. But assuming the upper Jacks Fork stays low, at least the canoe rental people won't be putting boats on it, so it should only be crowded around the accesses and here and there where the locals keep using unauthorized roads and trails to it.
countryred Posted August 18, 2014 Author Posted August 18, 2014 Thanks Al. I would avoid the river but its my only chance at a 4 day weekend . We might get a chance to do some fishing while the party crowd is still sleeping. Maybe even find a topwater bite. That is one good thing about the upper jacks. The rental places tend to leave it alone due to the dragging. When we bought our place we wanted it to be near an Ozark stream with some solitude. Most of what I have seen there are families and college kids swimming and picnicking near Blue Spring and Buck Hollow. Judging by the beer cans and taco bell wrappers the river dorks do come out sometime.

OzarksRiverman Posted August 19, 2014 Posted August 19, 2014 Don't forget your snake boots on the upper Jacks in late summer!
Al Agnew Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 Yep, I've seen more cottonmouths by far on the upper Jacks Fork than any other Ozark stream.
countryred Posted August 20, 2014 Author Posted August 20, 2014 May sound odd. But I would like to see one. I saw a few water snakes on our float in May. The only possible Cottonmouth was while I was on the bank. I had walked by the fallen small tree in a side channel a couple times already when I stopped to listen to my wife. Just then I heard a light rustling sound and say a black colored snake slip into the water. I didn't see its head but the body had some mass to it. I had walked within 3' of that tree several times that day. My neighbor lady ( down there ) has had a couple rattlers and several copperheads in her yard. Our brushy place is probably their home.
