John Berry Posted January 9, 2007 Posted January 9, 2007 The Y2K is fished with a dead drift under an indicator. It is my go to winter fly. Besides how can anything that looks like power bait not work. John Berry OAF CONTRIBUTOR Fly Fishing For Trout (870)435-2169 http://www.berrybrothersguides.com berrybrothers@infodash.com
Mikey Posted January 9, 2007 Author Posted January 9, 2007 I Had done some reasearch on this board on the Y2K, and it seems last year everyone was ashamed to admit to using it, but not it's become the go to bug. I'll definitely be picking a few up before I head out. What type of indicator do you use to fish under, John? Seems to be a matter of preference from what I've read. Mikey Each time I buy a new fly............ My wife gives me the same look........ I give her when she buys another purse... ..............................
Terry Beeson Posted January 9, 2007 Posted January 9, 2007 Besides how can anything that looks like power bait not work. True, John... Very true... John Berry Posted January 9, 2007 Posted January 9, 2007 Y2K.docI use a large turn on indicator. They are adjustable and can be added after you tie on the fly. John Berry OAF CONTRIBUTOR Fly Fishing For Trout (870)435-2169 http://www.berrybrothersguides.com berrybrothers@infodash.com
Mikey Posted January 9, 2007 Author Posted January 9, 2007 Once again, thank you. I have also read quite a bit about the trout crack flies, it seems like a simply fly to tie (once ya get that mono seated in)...does it work as well as I've read? One of my local fly shops has a fly that looks like it called 'trout cocaine'..I have to assume that it's the same, just a different narcotic rock based nomenclature. Perhaps I might run across you guys while I'm up there next month. Mikey Each time I buy a new fly............ My wife gives me the same look........ I give her when she buys another purse... ..............................
Terry Beeson Posted January 9, 2007 Posted January 9, 2007 Trout Crack is a "must try" fly for me on the White system... YES it works... John Wilson gives a good online forum lesson on how to fish the trout crack on his forum. It can be very productive... Mikey Posted January 9, 2007 Author Posted January 9, 2007 Just heard that we are going to be camping in the state park area when we get there. Good fishing to be had in the state park areas? Not too far from the campsite? Or will I have to look into driving most of the day? It looks like a large trout fishing region and I'm afraid I may miss some of it (i'm not driving see what I mean) And where is John Wilson's forum? I went to flyfishingarkansas.com but I didn't have hardly any hits when I searched trout crack. Oh yea, another question for you guys: Any chance the browns hit on live baits like crayfish and havs anyone had any luck with a fly that imitates the larger food sources like crayfish and sculpins? Saw a sculpin fly at my local shop...looked ugly. Uglier than the fish... Each time I buy a new fly............ My wife gives me the same look........ I give her when she buys another purse... ..............................
shawncat Posted January 12, 2007 Posted January 12, 2007 The last time I tried to fish a sculpin fly it was like casting a large wet sock.
Terry Beeson Posted January 12, 2007 Posted January 12, 2007 What size sculpin on what weight rod? Sounds like you were "over fly-ed" or "under rod-ded"....
