Members carptracker
First time to get out on Whiskey Joe's favorite river. Could not make it to the Meramec the last few weeks and had a few hours to wade fish yesterday evening. Pretty stretch and deeper water than expected. First 4 or 5 were all spots in moving water and fished some deeper water a pretty good time before hooking the only smallie. Solid 16er that made the drag talk. One crappie and it was getting dark. Nice way to get a river fix in a couple hours. Way too many jets and flying carp I doubt if I go back. What sections of the river do you all consider upper, middle & lower? ozark trout fisher
Sounds like you must have been way down low, given the carp and jets. I don't fish below Union ever, as that seems to be the lower limit of the decent smallie fishing. Where I fish you won't encounter either of those two pestilences at least in any appreciable numbers.....though who knows, the asian carp may show up there eventually (I hope not!) The area from Noser Mill down to the 50 bridge in Union is what I consider the middle river and the stretch I fish almost exclusively. There is some nice, secluded water in there, but access is spread out and that's the challenge. Also lots of tiny spotted bass for every smallie or bucketmouth. It's not for everyone. The upper river around Tea/Mill Rock/Wenkel Ford is also nice for early season floating/wade fishing too. SmallyWally
Members carptracker
Was fishing south of Gerald and the part about jets & flying carp was tongue in cheek (can't believe everything you read on here). Thanks for the information about what's considered upper & middle. Did not see a soul Friday evening. Good luck on your next trip.
