Thanks for keeping up on this as I am not a local (wish I was). I have worked with injured baldies in the past and most of them had been shot and acted much the way this one did. I thought my post would have taken care of this easily. I could have picked him up and brought him to a vet here in TN that would have taken excellent care of him but I didn't want him away from his home territory and family (much less explain to "the man" why I was transporting a shot Blad Eagle).

Yeah, the numbers are up and the might be off the list, but that is more of a credit to the NW territoties, Alaska, MT, etc. The are still pretty hard to see in this part of the country (in nature, not zoo)and it is a life event the first time you stumble accross one in the wild.

I'll call the bird sanc in stl tomorrow and see if they know anything.

Two years ago I counted nearly 400 at clarksville dam with my spotting scope on the Miss river.

Last year when we went there we found over 70. The eagles congregate at the dams when the river clogs with ice. We will visit this year again since the ice should be filling the river soon. Even though the eagles are coming back they are still protected however much of the funding for such issues have been cut off and volunteers can only do so much.

Well I called WBS in st.louis today and the girl said this was the first she heard of it.Only one eagle in hospital from st.gen county. She said best thing would be call local conservation agent because they don't have resouces to go that far from st.louis area to get it.OR......if you are bold, thow a blanket over bird, put on heavy gloves[welder gloves],and transport in dog carrier or large box to rehab center.Do not try to cross state lines with bird.Sick or injured eagles should only be your possesion in route to a in state bird rehab.
