Biglerma Posted September 2, 2014 Posted September 2, 2014 Me and the wife went to the river this past weekend. Had a ball throwing hoppers and beetles! Caught a ton of fish. Big thanks to Tim for some great insight. We seemed to do better on tan colored beetles than the hopper. We had some really aggressive strikes. I know a lot of people let the dry flies drift with the current but if they didn't hit it in the first 5 seconds you would have to pick it up and put it back down again to try to get their attention. This was the only way we got strikes. We went below the darn into zone 3 and found 1 pocket of about 20 fish. Had the hole to ourselves so we played catch and release with them for a couple hours. Saw 1 fish that was probably about 5 pounds but he didn't want to play. Saw another nice one about that size in the catch and release section but he didn't want to play either. Biggest fish we caught was 18 inches.
