Dylan Cluver Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 Will be heading to Northern WI in a week for some smallie fishing. But in our off time we plan on heading to Lake Superior. My question is has anyone fished the mouth of the Montreal River around Superior Falls? Any salmon or lake run browns? This spot is an hour from us and the Brule is a 2 hour drive, is the extra hour to the Brule worth it? No one gripes about obese fish.
rangerman Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 Are you taking a boat I presume? I go to sturgeon bay this coming week. The canal loads with 4 year kings, which you can catch cast and retrieving cranks. The brighter more obnoxious colored cranks are the best. Chartreuses/oranges are hot. I use cotton Cordell Wally divers and 800 series reef runners. The smallies get thick at the mouth of the sturgeon bay canal on the Green Bay side. You can catch those using whatever technique you feel comfortable. And the walleye and currently moving up the bay from what I hear. Can't say much about superior though....sorry. The salmon and browns are moving into river systems and harbors so you should be good to go for what it's worth.
Dylan Cluver Posted September 17, 2014 Author Posted September 17, 2014 We have a guided trip lined up, so the smallie and musky fishing will be out of a boat, but the salmon/brown fishing will be wading. No one gripes about obese fish.
West Fork Jason Posted December 6, 2014 Posted December 6, 2014 Dylan- Did you make it over to the mouth of the Montreal? What a beautiful spot, and some good fishing to boot. How was the rest of your trip? You'll never know what you'll catch there. Warm water and cold water species, just depending on conditions. Got this chunky small mouth swinging a white fat head streamer a few years back. Only bad thing about this spot, the bucket brigade seems to do a good job extracting fish from it. Saw a kid with a stringer full of 15-20 year old smallies... http://www.WestForkJason.com
Dylan Cluver Posted January 10, 2015 Author Posted January 10, 2015 The trip was great, I caught two of the biggest smallies i ever have. The mouth of the Montreal is incredible, but we did not hook any fish. No one gripes about obese fish.
West Fork Jason Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 PM sent back- Cheers http://www.WestForkJason.com
