Danoinark Posted January 12, 2007 Posted January 12, 2007 JJ Made a few of those the other night myself. I use magnetic sheets and foam for mine. Great midge boxes. Dano Glass Has Class "from the laid back lane in the Arkansas Ozarks"

Crippled Caddis Posted January 12, 2007 Posted January 12, 2007 I CAN RECOMMEND THE LITTLE ORAJEL TOOTHE-ACHE SWAP CONTAINERS HIGHLY. SELF HINGING TRANSLUCENT GREEN PLASTIC @ 2 1/2" X 3 1/4" X 3/8"+ THICK. (Dang it! I hate that cap lock!;o() I put 3 strips of self-adhesive 1/4" magnetic strip in one side and 2mm craft foam in the other. It's just the right size to slip into a shirt pocket with little bulk yet big enough to hold plenty of midges, scuds and soft-hackles for a week of fishing. I'm currently trying to figure out what to put the remaining swabs in from the new box without incurring the wrath of the HC. jjtroutbum Posted January 12, 2007 Author Posted January 12, 2007 I repaint in black use a gold fine tip paint pen to add monograms and hand paint recipiants favorite fly or for my self a nymph "pheasanttail" on one and a streamer "Zonker" on the other added foam thin black type was used to wrap something for packaging , and glue a Sear's refridgerator magnet face down on the lid side. I have given several to family and one to a long time fishin buddy there really is a sence of accomlishment in not only giving flies to f&f but a personlized container that makes the complete hand made heirloom Thank for all the responcies and Il try and include a few pics soon <ill have to borrow a camera > Jon Joy ___________ "A jerk at one end of the line is enough." unknown author The Second Amendment was written for hunting tyrants not ducks. Thom Posted January 13, 2007 Posted January 13, 2007 I have been using the alatoid tin and they are great. I just hot glue high density foam cut with a sharp knife to accomocate the fly to the bottom and in some cases use the magnetic strips with self sticking tape on the back. (found it at Lowes in the hardware drawer section) They don't pop open quickly like some of the purchased fly boxes and fit well in the upper small pockets of my vest. If you do drop the box the foam allows it to float long enough to scoop it up. I print a colored label with picture from my computer and glue it to the front top. A strip of clear 3" package tape over the top and your done. Except filling the box of course. Thom Harvengt
Don Posted January 13, 2007 Posted January 13, 2007 JJ, I saw your Camel box on New Years and I really liked it. Thanks to all of you other posters on this thread to help out a frugal flyfisherman like myself. Don Don May I caught you a delicious bass.
Members drbewley Posted January 13, 2007 Members Posted January 13, 2007 I had a friend up from Louisiana a couple of years ago and he likes to fish soft hackles. I had to provide his flies so my wife made up an Altoids box for him. She put some kind of black stuff on the inside of the lid so the sun wouldn't blind him and a lot of soft strips on the bottom side so you could hook the flies into. I still carry it, but it is bent pretty bad. I still use it for soft hackles.
