Y2K Bug recipe?

Just curious. There isn't a lot of information on the internet about the y2k fly. Everything I get is either about potential armaggedon or someone's airline flight for the year 2000. I did stumble across a site out of the UK that sells the Y2k. I also came across one from a white river area merchant. They do seem different in appearance, however I must conclude both of them are simply a stimulator. Does anyone euse either pattern of this bug? And is there a better place I might look into getting one until I can afford a fly tying kit for myself?

Do a search on this forum. he Y3K fly was a thread for a while. I believe Tim's FLy Shop has them.

I read his article, he attached it in another message on a different thread. I guess I was having a hard time finding the y2k thread since the search won't show anything for searches with only 3 characters. and when i tried bumping it up i was always looking for y2k bug rather than y2k fly. i'll check out your link though, i appreciate it LMW.

Looks like a gold headed glo ball! Instead of a jig use a gold bead then tie your yarn on and viola.

Yeh it works, but so do a lot of the larger egg patterns, your choice. You should be able to find this pattern at Umpqua fly shops, though Ive been having a hard time getting supplies around Christmas so its back to tying our own.

Our best color combo is FL orange/Fl Chartruese though occassionally we will tie up other color combos _ depending on what the powerbait anglers tell us is working LOL

Ok we need a sense of humor around here, especially when your tying these all the time LOL

I'd also be having some pale pink or cerise egg patterns or Y2Ks in my box for the Bull Shoals section. I didn't mention in the camera thread but we guide over there and tany too.

Jeremy, is that a nymph hook or a streamer? I'm having a hard time getting the bodies to fluff out like pictured, to hide the thread wraps where the yarn is being tied in. Thanks for the sheet, Dano. I've found it a few times on here. May as well save it to my HD.

I know what you mean when you say it shows your thread wraps when you cut the yarn. The key is to tie with GSP thread. It's made by Wapsi and local shops do carry it. It is the UTC spool so that's what you want to look for. Also there are sizes that this comes in. I use the 50 GSP. Don't make to many thread wraps either. Just make every wrap tight. The hook I use is the 2488 or the 2499sp TMC. They have more of a straight shank instead of curved. To make it fluff out you need to make sure you make one cut in the back and pull the yarn tight when cutting. That should help you out. Good luck....
