Kayser Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 I've been wanting to chase some carp this spring, but being in Rolla, I'm not sure where the closest pond/lake would be to chase them. I've spent ~5 years here, and still haven't chased them outside of IL or at LOZ. Just hoping for someplace that doesn't take as much gas to get to. So, has anybody seen a bunch in a nearby lake? Have a secret spot you'd like to give up? I'd like to tie into something bigger than the local trout (with a little less work, to boot). WARNING!! Comments to be interpreted at own risk. Time spent fishing is never wasted.
watermen Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 Kayser there's some carp on the nade, you'll have to drive by the house down to Nagagomi. I've never seen any numbers except May when they are spawning. Other than that never seen any close, and you'll probably be gone for summer before it warms up enough.
Kelroy Posted March 19, 2015 Posted March 19, 2015 Lion's Club lake has a few big ones that cruise the banks. In fact, that's about the only fish I see in there any more. Try between the island and the bridge, and the NE cove.
Kayser Posted March 20, 2015 Author Posted March 20, 2015 Actual carp, or grass carp? I don't want to kill the old guys they put in for weed control, which is a very real possibility on the tackle I've got here. WARNING!! Comments to be interpreted at own risk. Time spent fishing is never wasted.
Kelroy Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 Look like common carp to me, gold tint, high back, eyes in the right place. Heck, last year there was even one of those orange-and-white koi cruising around. Take a walk around the shallow cove on the Northeast side and see if they're up in there.
