Members crappieT Posted March 23, 2015 Author Members Posted March 23, 2015 Brother and i put boat in Saturday afternoon bout 2 pm and by 6 we both had our limit of nice 1.5 lb crappie. fished trees bout 6 to 10 ft with Bobby Garland itty bitty swim'r. water temp was 52.
Members rondo Posted March 24, 2015 Members Posted March 24, 2015 That's great! Been catching them above Bolivar landing in the river. 2-10fow around brush and stumps on jigs tipped with minnows. Seems like the smaller the structure the larger the fish?? Caught a few nice white bass also on roadrunners. Water temp was 56-58. Bonus was the turkeys were gobblin' everywhere? crappieT 1
shockley32 Posted March 24, 2015 Posted March 24, 2015 You are still about a month early for the spawn. Just because the crappie start to move shallow does not mean they are ready to spawn, it takes both the correct water temps and amount of day light. Not all crappie will spawn at the same time, obviously the farther up the lake you go the shallower and warmer the water will become, these fish will start first and then the spawning wave starts moving toward the main lake. That, however, does not mean you cannot get into a good mess of crappie, today!!! With the water warming the fish will start moving shallower, it may take a while to locate the fish but when you do it will be a blast. Currently the crappie are very scattered, no one depth or technique is magic. Saturday we caught crappie in 33 feet of water fishing 30 feet deep, we also caught crappie in 3 feet of water fishing 1 foot deep. The great thing about early spring is the warming trend, just as we like to be outside on a nice sunny 70 degree day, so do the crappie (or go shallower anyway, that they might enjoy it as well). Just remember the shallower the fish the more unpredictable they will be. Early in the year there are a lot of fronts and changing weather, what might work today probably will not work tomorrow. Get out, have some fun, rip some lips and let us know how you do! Brad Aggressor1988long and rondo 2 Have your visited Limitville lately?
