hoglaw Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 Caught them ok today in the Twin bridges area. Could not buy a bite from 1-4 or so, but we saw them by the hundreds in shallow water. They picked up around 4, but it was never a red hot bite. We worked very hard for the 30 or so we caught. 2 walleye with one barely being a keeper. My buddy lost a good fish that was likely a hybrid. I thought I had a big hybrid too until I saw a flash of gold after finally getting my line back. Carp. Will be interesting to see what the weather does to it. I've had some good days this year, but no great 100 fish days.
bferg Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 Thanks for the report- that is a little discouraging. Think they are already locked up on tbe spawn?
Lshack2 Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 i fished the same area from 6:30 until dark thirty and it was very good... probably 25+ whites, one hybrid and a four crappie.... I fished the same area last night and zeroed.. Very strange year, I do think some are locked on the spawn, but most caught tonight were males. nathanhooper Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 Thanks for the update. I've been locked up just like them sounds like. I am hoping to get out this weekend and make another go at it. I've never hit it at the time where people talk about the 100's mark. I do remember for the last few years that they still have been biting for a couple more weeks. Hope that trend continues.
Members Dan Sweeney Posted April 9, 2015 Members Posted April 9, 2015 I've been up there twice without a hit yet. Seen maybe 8 or 10 fish caught total, but it's been following nasty chilly snaps both times. Of course now I'm tied up with drill and work for a while. I may have to take a couple personal days next week. Silence is golden.
Jason R. Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 Man, I love fishing the run up there. If I get up there for work any time soon I am going to have to stop by there. Last year I caught it right at the end and managed to catch a few on my 6wt. Year before I managed to catch a good day and caught 3 or 4 of the biggest hybrids I've ever caught. http://flyinthesouth.com/
hoglaw Posted April 9, 2015 Author Posted April 9, 2015 Craziest thing I saw yesterday was a guy in a Ghenooe (however you spell that). He hit a rock with his outboard (a 2.5h I think) and it threw it straight sideways. Threw him out of the boat and he was hanging onto it while it spun like a bull in 4' or so of water. He was holding on for dear life and had lost his footing, but was near the stern of it. I thought he was going to get chopped up by that motor and he came extremely close. It probably spun 15 or 20 times with him stuck on/under it. He finally managed to hit the kill switch. PSA to wear a kill switch. I'm bad about not wearing mine. Gave us all quite a scare watching him, and a hell of a laugh afterwards.
cpriest Posted April 10, 2015 Posted April 10, 2015 Hoglaw - that was scary as hell as it was me. I've been running that boat for 3 years in everything from duck marsh to our tailwaters and never had anything like that ever before. However I was not wearing the kill switch, and I knew better. I will never make that mistake again. Glad we found a few fish, even though I was a little shaken up after all that. Even more glad it made for a good laugh than something worse.
hoglaw Posted April 10, 2015 Author Posted April 10, 2015 I figured someone would know who it was. That was incredibly scary and you made a hell of a move to hit the kill switch. I'm so bad about it that at times there has been a zip tie around mine just to make sure I don't have to mess with it. Did you catch any fish? Seemed like we left them biting a little.
cpriest Posted April 10, 2015 Posted April 10, 2015 I hooked up with a few but saw a lot of them. It's been a spotty run for me this year so far. I haven't caught a female yet, but in general the males seem above average size. As long as we dont get any major rain the next couple weeks should be on.
