M_Taylor Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 One more suggestion, depending on your boat you could put the buckets alongside up by the bow. That way if you need to throw it in reverse, you can't chop up your buckets or the line.
nathanhooper Posted April 14, 2015 Author Posted April 14, 2015 You can also use a trolling plate, like the Happy Troller, to reduce speed. I've used one in the past, and they do work well. On my current boat, I trim the engine all the way down and it helps. Trolling plates attach to the cavitation plate on the outboard and are easy to install. I actually put one on last year. A friend did not need his at the time so I figured I would try it out. It works, very well, almost too well, but in order to get up past a certain speed - but below the idle speed without - you have to rev the engine way high. Makes for a very noisy trolling trip, not to mention very fuel inefficient.

But then my luck is the fish would get tangled in it and watch supper swim away.... lol
