Worked the Legends of Golf tournament this weekend and needed a little R&R Saturday night after working so thought I would head over to Table Rock State Park marina and fish from the bank for the last hour or so of light. So I grabbed my rod and my Ned rig stuff and headed over.

Caught one little smallie after a few casts, so at least knew I wouldn't be skunked for the night. I hate getting skunked! I kept getting bites, but nothing would really take it for the first half hour or so. I thought I would take one more cast in the spot I was at and then move down a little bit. I cast my PB&J Ned rig out about 30 feet and just let it sit for about 30 seconds then all of a sudden I got one heck of a hit. It hit 2 or 3 times real hard and then was gone. I reeled in my line to find my Ned rig clean cut in half. Totally shocked me as that ElaZtech is hard to rip apart. The only thing I could think it might have been was a Walleye. Any other ideas?

Well, needless to say I decided to move down after a few more casts and nothing. I guess the move was a good one. I ended up catching two nice smallies. One on a PB&J and the other on the green pumpkin. The trick was to let it sit.

Each fish had a story with it. The bigger of the two came as the sun was setting. I just about had it in when I heard a noise behind me. I turned around to see a game warden standing there. I was a little startled, but he was a real nice guy and was just checking to make sure I had my fishing license (I did luckily). As you will see in the picture below, he ended up taking the picture for me.

The last fish I caught was on my last cast of the night. It was almost pitch black out and I could hardly see a thing. I decided to take one more cast. It paid off. I was using the green pumpkin TRD and decided to just let it sit out there for 30 to 45 seconds before doing anything. It paid off! A nice 14 inch smallie. Picture below taken in the dark.

So, all in all a fun night fishing and a little R&R. Thank you Dave for getting me some of your Ned heads. They worked great! I was using the 1/16oz head.

Thank you everyone on here for sharing how you are fishing the Ned rig. I love reading all these reports! Great information!

Many men go fishing all of their lives without knowing that it is not fish they are after.

Its amazing how soaking it will catch fish. There has to be a little bit of current or flow to make the worm move a little. If there are fish present when it hits the water, I think the see/feel it and follow it wiggling to the bottom. When it just sits there, they watch (or feel for it) and when it's doing nothing but sitting it peaks there curiosity. Eventually they figure it's an easy meal and just bite it.

That's my theory anyway. And why I'm fishing many other baits much slower or vice versa, much faster for reaction strikes.

Yep. Dave's jigheads are awesome. I like the wire guards myself because I fish around a lot of cover and rocks.
