polock,

I was a memeber several years ago. When I joined, I told them that I fly fish and that trout were my primary target. They kept sending me plastic worms (the kind for bass fishing) and 14lb test line and stuff that I had no use for. I gave all of it away to folks that I know would use it. I did not renew my membership.

NAFC and NAHC and the primary PUBLISHING vehicles of North American Outdoor Group...a PUBLISHING and MARKETING company. They are in the biz of selling people magazines by convincing them they are in a "club."

SM is exactly right. Back several years ago when I was young and naive, I joined in the hopes of getting to try out all kinds of gadgets and tackle. I was primarily a crappie fisherman (crappie being the species, not the description of my abilities... well... OK... I was both...)

Anyway, Okie, you were lucky if you got plastic worms and such... I got ZILCH... NADA... I was onto the idea after the first couple of months. They were selling a sub-standard magazine on the pretence of you belonging to a club and get to try new gear and even contribute to the rag...

OH... this year I got another invitation from them and the NA Hunting C... At least I can use the note pads and the hunting one sent me a kewl deer clinger for my truck window.

Take out the note pads and if you want the crappie magnet, then the rest goes in file 13... (Dang, I wish it had been a trout magnet...)

By the way... Now I'm just OLD and naive...

It is a magazine scam. They have enrolled me as a member twice for some reason. Then they sent me notices that they were submitting my account to a collection agency. Fortunately I have legal services available to me and they sent them a letter that solved the problem.

I sent them an email and got this reply even though I had never signed up for the club.

"

Dear Member,

Thank you for your email. I am sorry that you received a collection notice for dues. I have contacted the agency and asked that your name to be removed from their list. Please allow 30 days for that to happen. In the meantime if you get another letter from the collection agency, please disregard it. Your credit rating is not nor will it be affected. Your membership is canceled with the club.

I have canceled both memberships you have started with us and the latest one was on 01/04/2007 with member number 65432462.

Thanks for giving us a try!

Bill

A total scam.

In my opinion, the NAHC mag is much better than the NAFC mag. But their biz practices/ethics are HORRIBLE. I used to write for North American Hunter. So maybe I'm a bit biased. LOL

They sent me their magazine for two or three months even thought I didn't request them. I read an article or two and my comment was: Duh? Yes you do throw the line into the water to catch fish.

Never saw any articles on mid west or trout fishing and everything was like an article from beginning fishing.

All you need to do is wait to get the free issue or first issue and then write them back saying you want to cancel. Their literature says you can cancel if you are not satisfied. Keep a copy of the letter you mail.

Who knows you might like the magazine. Just don't expect any of the good stuff they promise.
