ruthead Posted May 17, 2015 Posted May 17, 2015 Looking for a fly rod for a musky trip. Prefer 9wt but will consider 10wt. $200.00 Max. "Pretty soon we may not have any rights left because it might infringe on someone's rights"
Clay Goforth Posted May 18, 2015 Posted May 18, 2015 For $200, I would go to Cabelas and buy a Cabela's brand 9wt with a reel. You should even be able to get into one of the "Saltwater" versions which has a little better components for $200. Not trying to tell you what to do, but I saw that you hadn't had any replies and thought I might offer up an idea. I just bought a this exact setup maybe 8 months ago and got into everything for right at $200. ruthead Posted May 18, 2015 Author Posted May 18, 2015 can I ask what did you buy and how did you like it? Just thought I might be able to get a higher quality rod for the same money if i went used. Got reels and lines so again taking those expenses out hoped to get a better rod but may not without any responses here. down to 30 days before we leave so my time is limited. I understand wanting to get a nicer rod for the same amount if you go used, for sure. I like the rod a lot but I knew what I was getting it for. I wanted a fairly inexpensive multipurpose rod that I could use at the beach, in Canada, Alaska, or fishing for bass. Since I knew it was going to be drug around, thrown in a truck, flown with in airplanes, etc... I wanted something that I didn't value as a prized rod. This was perfect for that. Casts great, a little heavy on the weight, but overall a great rod. I don't know if you are wanting something to be able to fish with a lot when you come back but if you are just looking for a rod for this trip that will then function well in other capacities from time to time, I think its a nice rod. Componentry is pretty good. Reel seat is tight and locks in the reel nicely. No complaints. Jeff Tief Posted May 18, 2015 Posted May 18, 2015 Sierra Trading Post had 2 inexpensive rods 9ft.-10 wt. on sale. If you sign up for their deal flyer coupon they are even cheaper. One rod is a TFO Fly Rod Chronicles rod that is 4pc. but only with a rod sock for $84. The other is a Cortland Pro Cast with rod sack for $60. They are both priced higher if you don't have the deal flyer coupon.
Clay Goforth Posted May 19, 2015 Posted May 19, 2015 That TFO is crazy good! I have to ignore the deal flyer emails or I buy something every time. Good info, Jeff! ruthead Posted May 20, 2015 Author Posted May 20, 2015 Thanks for the suggestions. I'm narrowing things down. "Pretty soon we may not have any rights left because it might infringe on someone's rights"
