Need some expert help- you guys will have to do;)

I have a Lowe Roughneck that I want to add some rod holders to for trolling. The key is they need to be easily removable. I use my boat for fly fishing quite a bit and I don't want anything that could catch lines- a huge pain when flyfishing. So the mounts have to essentially be clamps I can remove. Any ideas for where what I need? Is there something that goes on the rail? Or is there a clamp style for the side? Any pointers would be helpful... I am new to the trolling gear. Also- any advice on economic but quality rod holders? This isn't my primary way of fishing so I want it to be reasonable but want something that works....

So I guess my question is- best removable trolling set up for an aluminum boat?

Thanks and Happy 4th of July!

Check out extreme fishing concepts they have some cool rod holder bases that attach in the track on an aluminum boat then you can put on the rod holders you want. I have a big lowe myself and got the adjustable bases with drift master holders. If I knew how to post a link I would but I'm a little computer challenged....

Yeah, what type of mount do you want? Do you have rails to mount on? Or just a flat surface ?

You mention rails, and there are rod holders that have bases that mount on rails while the holder can be removed. However, those will still catch a line. There are others that mount through the gunwale, if you have that on your boat, and they are less likely to snag a fly line.

There are a couple of things you might try to get around the rod-holder-base thing: Lefty Kreh used to carry a piece of netting around with him and spread it over obstructions where he would strip his line. While I've used a stripping basket in the past, I'm not a big fan; they work, but I didn't like mine. What does work is one of those collapsible hampers that often are sold for clothes or for use when raking leaves. They are basically a large tube with mesh sides that collapse to a flat disk. You would want to cut a piece of plywood or something similar to put in the bottom to keep the hamper from blowing out of the boat. The large diameter is fly-fishing friendly. Thanks everyone for the input. I don't have rails to mount on- at least not the round kind. I just have a channel down the gunwale- like in the picture above. I think those extreme fishing mounts look perfect. I could easily take them off when fly fishing. I might even be able to mount them where they will be out of the way from stripping anyway.

Great idea on the laundry basket for netting. I have seen the netting before but didn't even think of using a laundry basket.

I had a pair of Cabelas rod holders mounted on rails on my old boat. They worked fine. Easy to remove the holders and the mounts we're low profile and strong. $20 each. I transferred them to my new boat and still use them. Been a couple years now and show no wear or sign of deterioration.

The onesike shown above are nice two if you have a rail system to mount to. Or for spider rigging. For trolling, I prefer a larger rod holder.

The extreme bases are moveable. You just loosen the bolts and slide them in the track to get them out of the way. Oh and they will make you a package deal if you order several at a time
