Bird Watcher Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 Does anyone have a report of how hard/easy the shad are to find in the lake? Maybe a location they've been seeing some? Thinking about heading up tomorrow and wondering whether I need to stop up one of the rivers to catch bait before I hit the main lake.
slab slinger Posted July 18, 2015 Posted July 18, 2015 I struggled in the lake finding shad with any size. Plenty of fry everywhere but no luck finding gizzards or nice size threadfins. I had to travel to a river to get my bait. You'll have a hard time getting any fisherman who nets his own bait to give up his hole. If you don't mind sacraficing a throw net per trip Truman tail waters full of shad most of the year.
brother dave Posted July 19, 2015 Posted July 19, 2015 I have pretty good luck with trolling the hoop off the dip net behind the boat. Works on the mississippi, the missouri and at mark twain, dont know why it wouldn't work on truman slab slinger 1 I shop at the outdoor grocery store
Bird Watcher Posted July 19, 2015 Author Posted July 19, 2015 there were plenty of shad main lake. Lot's of fry, but plenty of bigger ones too. Used down scan to find the bigger shad. slab slinger 1
