Members Mottled Sculpin Posted July 24, 2015 Members Posted July 24, 2015 Considering fishing boiling springs to slab town on an overnight trip. Will have an entire day but need to be off river by 1pm the following day. Just wandering if this 15 mile stretch is doable within this time frame? Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks
Al Agnew Posted July 25, 2015 Posted July 25, 2015 Sure it's doable. But it is a fairly slow stretch of river, and you'd have to keep moving. I've fished it in a single day, but that's early in the morning until nearly dark, and not much stopping.
Members Mottled Sculpin Posted July 25, 2015 Author Members Posted July 25, 2015 Thanks for the input. I might try the 12 mile stretch above Boiling Springs. In your opinion does that water move quicker than BS to Slabtown?
Al Agnew Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 Yes, it does, but it can get considerably less water than the stretch below Boiling Spring. That shouldn't be a problem this year as wet as it's been, but in dry years the time it takes to float the two stretches is pretty similar--the upper stretch will have shallow riffles you might have to drag, and the lower stretch will require more paddling.
Coosa Posted July 26, 2015 Posted July 26, 2015 My brother and I floated the 12 mile stretch above boiling springs and camped just before we got to boiling spdings. Then the next day we floated the 15 mile stretch you are speaking of with one night of camping. We were off the river right at 1 o'clock. BUT this was early in the year and we stayed moving. We don't tend to leave the kayaks very often. You can do it but it won't leave much time for playing. It all depends on how you fish
