Members franks Posted February 13, 2007 Members Posted February 13, 2007 I posted a need to buy a lower unit last week. My problem is the year(1988) of my Mercury 150 XR4 had an odd-ball gear housing. I guess Merc tried to make them lighter, but the lighter gears wouldn't hold up. It has been suggested that I get a new unit with larger gears.I think the hub size will have to change too. My question is what other year models will work? Dealerships are not very willing to give out that info to me. I guess they want the sale. Any info will help me get back on the water. Thanks in advance.

Crippled Caddis Posted February 13, 2007 Posted February 13, 2007 May I suggest that you post your question on the help board of the Antique Outboard Club? <http://www.aomci.org/askamember/index.html> Even tho yours is hardly an antique the members of the board are probably to most knowledgeable group in a single gathering in the world and always eager to be of assistance.
